Short Biography
Maria Corsaro's love of music and performing began early in her life. She received her first undergraduate degree in theater and after graduation joined an off Broadway theater company. In her early twenties, living in Greenwich Village during this fertile period for theater, music and the arts, Maria found herself gravitating to jazz clubs where she met and hung out with many great jazz musicians and steeped herself in that extraordinary art form. Realizing, as many young artists do, that hanging in jazz clubs and working Off Broadway do not make one a living, Maria spent many years in a rewarding, but non musical career. But jazz kept beckoning, and in recent years she returned to singing and her love of jazz, and has been performing the music of legendary jazz composers and lyricists in various venues in NYC, Boston, Nashville, Pennsylvania and Connecticut, and has just recorded her first CD, “Love Makes The Changes”. In her live singing and on her CD, she combines her love of jazz, “the music of her heart,” with her experiences of story-telling as a theater and cabaret artist. Her "musical mission" is that her audiences get to experience the musical texture of this great, collaborative art form, as well as the stories these classic songs, some of them familiar, some of them undiscovered gems, tell.

Quotes
Corsaro has this raspy, sexy, woman’s voice in her lower register and a more legit sound on top but it’s a voice filled with what feels like knowledge of the places she puts herself in emotionally.

There are singers who sing jazz and singers who connect to us to tell stories. Maria does both, and the results are both moving and entertaining.

There is a soothing and soulful undertone to her voice which is difficult to fully describe but is undoubtedly distinctive… However, this singer can also hit those high notes as well.

The big finale is also proof positive that talent, commitment, respect for the source material, and a few creative musical touches can even make music written in the 1930’s sound as fresh and exciting as ever in 2021.

As the audience listens to the music, Corsaro’s expressive face conveys the emotion of the song so perfectly– almost as if she is channeling decades of bittersweet memories from generations of musicians before her.
